Recent decisions of the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal have significantly increased the magnitude of the damage awards normally issued.

In addition, they have laid the groundwork for complainants to be awarded significant legal costs which in some cases far exceed the damages for the discrimination itself.

It behooves all employers to familiarize themselves with these recent cases and take steps to take all reasonable precautions to reduce the likelihood of human rights complaints in the workplace.
